Reasonable and Realistic goal setting for Weight Loss
The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps - we must step up the stairs. ~Vance Havner
Setting and achieving goals, however small and insignificant, even if it is only to take a vitamin tablet every day, will boost your confidence on a day to day basis. Each time you achieve a purposefully set objective, your confidence in your own ability grows. Although I knew about, and even occasionally used the goal setting procedure, I severely underestimated the potential of this powerful technique to achieve and maintain permanent weight loss. Too much hassle, I thought. I have since been converted, not only by my own experience, but also by the overwhelmingly positive reaction from my clients. Your self-esteem, awareness, ability to communicate with other people, energy and responsibility can all be amplified by your use of goal setting. Confidence comes from knowing that we can successfully complete what we set out to do. It results from experience, the experience of meeting our goals effectively. We must have some way to evaluate an experience, some way to know whether it was valuable or not. This is where goal-setting comes in. Setting realistic weight loss goals, working toward them and finally achieving them are superb learning experiences. Goal setting for weight loss keeps you motivated.
Build your self-confidence by setting realistic weight loss goals
We feel good about ourselves when we meet our goals. The people around us pick up on our sense of well-being, and respond by offering cooperation and trust. Which in turn makes it easier for us to reach our next goals, and so the effect soon snow-balls, to the delight of both ourselves and every one around us. Set SMART goals. Otherwise, the goals will just intensify the frustration of not doing as well as you expected. Setting a goal gives you something tangible to work toward. You are more likely to succeed by saying, "I will exercise twice a week," rather than saying, "I will try to exercise more often." Having a tangible goal gives you a sense of accomplishment.
Setting SMART weight loss goals
SMART GOALS are:Specific: State each goal as a positive unambiguous statement Measurable: Break the key goal down to measurable small steps Attainable: Make sure it fits in with your current work, family and financial commitments Relevant and Realistic: Physically and mentally possible Time bound: Aim to achieve the various stages of your goal according to a preconceived time scale
Goals are dreams with deadlines. -Diana Scharf Hunt
Plotting out your goals in this manner will make you aware of the skills, resources and time you will need to achieve your health and weight loss goals.Divide your end-goal into short and mid-term goals to help you build those skills. You must have long-range goals to keep you from being frustrated by short-range failures. ~Charles C. Noble You will begin to make food and eating decisions based on whether or not those choices will be beneficial to your long-term goals. If you just drift along in the sea of choices, allowing the tide of every day living to chart your course, it would only be by co-incidence that you will reach your target or even recognise it when you do. As you achieve each step, however small towards your weight loss goal, your confidence will grow and solidify.
Don't Quit!
"When things go wrong as they sometimes will When the road you're trudging seems all up hill. When funds are low and the debts are high. And you want to smile, but you have to sigh. When care is pressing you down a bit. Rest, if you must, but don't you quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns. As everyone of us sometimes learns. And many a failure turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out: Don't give up though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow. Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt. And you never can tell how close you are. It may be near when it seems so far: So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit It's when things seem worst that you must not QUIT.
